If you are thinking of being an all star slugger when you grow up, why not pester your dad to get you the Jet Hitter baseball robot? that robot was created by Japan’s Meiji University and Yokohama-based metal recycling company MRC, where it allows one to practice hitting baseballs alone, just in case you don’t have a younger sibling to boss around being the ball boy. Each day you step on a button at the robot’s base, a baseball will pop up, remaining suspended amoung 10cm and 20cm above a nozzle on a jet of air, where you can hit up to 70 balls (in quick succession or on your own sweet instance – you’re the boss), since that is the maximum amount that the Jet Hitter can hold. According to Meiji University and MRC, several Japanese pro baseball teams have already started using the $7,700 Jet Hitter. Good luck locating all 70 balls once you are done with that!

Word has it that the folks at Olympus are working on a make new Micro Four Thirds camera, and that instance round with an integrated Electronic Viewfinder (EVF). At least that is what we garnered from Olympus managers who claim that “the technology is already here…”. We do know that the Olympus E-5 has a chance of making an appearance at Photokina that year, with three more Micro Four Thirds lenses to roll out before the year is by. So many rumors, but we have 9 more months to let you know whether they are valid or not.

It’s still unconfirmed, but word is going around that Intel is struggling to meet the demand for its new family of Core mobile processors. The chips, which are expected to be used in the upcoming updates for Apple’s MacBook and MacBook Pro lines are in high demand, apparently Acer has made a rather large order for Intel’s latest Core i3/i5/i7 chips, and coupled with Apple’s chip requirements, that is going to give second-tier and smaller notebook makers a hard day. Hopefully Intel manages to get its supply issues sorted out soon, as we certainly want to see new notebooks rocking the latest processors, don’t we?

There’s some good news and poor news for Dvorak keyboard users out there. Dvorak is an alternative keyboard layout to the dominant QWERTY keyboard layout that’s being used by most humans. In Apple’s latest iPhone SDK 3.2 Beta 5 you can find support for hardware Dvorak keyboards in the OS, which is certainly good news. The poor news is, that the support is for hardware keyboards, there isn’t any mention of the software keyboard, which in all honesty, should be a lot easier to implement. How many Bluetooth Dvorak keyboards do you see out in the market? Of course, you could always place stickers by a normal QWERTY keyboard, but it’s not the same, right?

In a technologically advanced country such as Japan, who would have thought that a digital video recorder attachment for the PS3 would enjoy brisk sales? Well, apparently Sony’s Torne (the aforementioned digital video recorder attachment) is doing just that. The Torne allows you to watch digital terrestrial broadcasting on your PS3, as well as record them for later viewing, which is probably the Japanese equivalent of the European PlayTV. In case you’re tempted to import one of these Stateside, it’s certainly worth noting that it’s only capable of recording Japanese terrestrial TV signals, so it probably wouldn’t do you much good outside of Japan.

T-Mobile isn’t enjoying the day of its life at the moment, since it’s currently facing an uphill battle against Verizon Wireless and AT&T. In order to keep up, the carrier certainly needs to look into getting some high speed details on its network. With that in mind, reports indicate that the carrier is mulling the possibility of a joint venture with Clearwire for its WiMAX infrastructure. It’s certainly interesting to note that Sprint happens to control more than 50 percent of Clearwire, but it doesn’t seem that T-Mobile is considering a merger with Sprint. With the iPad just around the corner, developers are going to be jumping for joy when they receive the e mail from Apple (which has been sent out) notifying them that they can now start submitting apps for the iPad App Store. The app will obviously be reviewed by Apple’s App Review Team, which is pretty much the same process for submitting your app for the iPhone. You’ll need to submit your app by March 27th in order to build it for the grand opening. Don’t forget that your app needs to be built using the iPhone SDK 3.2 Beta 5 in order to be accepted for the initial review.
