Nokia Alvin approved by the FCC
August 31, 2009

While we were looking at the Nokia N900 video ad, the FCC has approved the Nokia Alvin, a mysterious handset represented by the silhouette above. Here’s what’s known about Alvin:
- 32MB of internal storage
- WCDMA 900/1900/2100Mhz
- Bluetooth
- WiFi
- BL-5J batteries
With that much storage, it has to be a multimedia phone of some sort. And given how towering it is, it might have a big, wide, display… we’re just guessing.

Asus to launch Intel-powered ultra-thin laptops
August 31, 2009

Leaks from Taiwan indicate that Asus is going to launch two ultra-thin laptops powered with Intel’s 743 (Celeron) and SU2300 processors. The new computers will first launch abroad (Asia, Europe) before hitting the USA at some point… Both processors are usually used in entry-level computers, so we expect the new products to be priced below $700. Asus believes that ultra-thin computers will represent 10 to 20 percent of their total notebook shipment in the next quarter.

Game Gun: fun, but will get you killed in Quake
August 31, 2009
Look at that video of the Game Gun. The concept is simple: stuck a display on a “gun” and use a motion sensor and voila, you get pseudo realistic action. I kind of like the notion, and may be that would be great for Point Blank (hum… may be not), but I know for a fact that you will get slammed at Quake or any of these First Person Shooter (FPS) designed for the mouse+keyboard. Still, there must be a good game out there for it… ideas anyone?
